In cooperation with Prague cinema Edison Filmhub and the Czech – Australia – New Zealand Association CANZA, we planned another evening dedicated to classic and contemporary Australian and New Zealand cinematography. 13th annual Aussie & Kiwi Film Fest will start on November 6, 2026, and horror fans can look forward to various films from this genre. But you don’t have to wait until then. We invite you to a special screening on September 15 of a queer horror movie, Leviticus. Tickets here.
The feature debut of Australian screenwriter and director Adrian Chiarella tells a story of two teenage boys, Naim and Ryan, who forge a romantic bond. Their closeness attracts the attention of those around them – and a ritual that is supposed to suppress their relationship lets out a violent supernatural entity taking the shape of a human whom its victims desire the most.
Leviticus combines the atmosphere of an intense horror movie with a delicate story about maturing, desire, shame and societal pressure. The protagonists are Joe Bird (Talk to Me) and Stacy Clausen, with Mia Wasikowska, Ewen Leslie, Jeremy Blewitt, and Rose Flanagan also starring. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
“Leviticus is the ideal appetiser before the opening of the 13th annual Aussie & Kiwi Film Fest in November. We want to show the audience that current Australian and New Zealand cinematography offers, besides intense dramas, bold and original genre films. Horror will be noticeably more featured in this year’s program – and from November 6, the audience will be able to see, not only in Edison Filmhub, but also in Lucerna and Ponrepo, various pictures that explore fear, body and other societal topics in a surprising manner,” says Markéta Vozková, Aussie & Kiwi Film Fest’s project manager.
There will be a debate after the screening with film critic Antonín Tesař, editor of Cinepur magazine and A2 bi-weekly magazine, and one of the organisers of The Shockproof Film Festival. Together we will discuss queer horror, genre films and contemporary Australian cinematography exploring body and desire. Get ready to ask questions and share your thoughts.
